Eid Mubarak!

YES! we made it! One month of fasting! Alhamdulilah!
Congratulations to you all, may God accept your good deeds, your fasting and all your duas! ameen.

If we can fast for one month, imagine the possibilities!!! We can do anything if we plan it, put our effort and stay committed.

I hope this month served as a cleansing and a strong foundation for anything you would like to achieve in the months to come. Make new habits part of your life and try to implement them as much as possible, even if it means that you will have to make adjustments.

Generally, to make good habits stick:
1. We need a good support system. Meaning, our best friends may not always agree with us but if we truly want to be achievers, we should stick to our word and deeds.

2. We need a strong good will and strength that comes from within. The key to having that strong will is to "see the goal" in front of us!

3. Once we WANT to make a change (we are tired of our current condition) we TAKE STEPS to achieving this change. We can either make small changes or big changes and jump right into it.

4. We connect with strong ACHIEVERS and observe, talk and befriend those we look up to. We try to get ideas or tips from THE VERY BEST. Go to your teachers, not those students who sit on the back.....

Best wishes and Eid MUBARAK!

the last 10days!

Subhanallah. What a month! I have not been keeping up with my posts as I thought I would have. But it has been a challenging month for me.
I haven't been feeling good and decided to go "raw" for these last 10days, as much as possible of course.

when I think of "detox" I think drinking lots of water, eating fruits and vegetables and not cooking any of it. And this really helps my body detox and gives me full energy and a boost of confidence and positive energy.
Ramadan is intended to "clean" our bodies, our minds, our spirits and really to give a time for reflection.

I feel that we don't always do justice to what Allah swt intends for us....I can't make general statements but PERSONALLY I feel that I tend to follow the crowd and overeat at times and feel horrible about it after.

So I made a conscious decision to go raw for these last 10days and I hope that it helps my body and my mind inshallah.

I hope to make the best out of these last 10 and pray that Allah swt gives me the much needed energy to do what is best to please HIM.

ameen.

an Eco-friendly Month

When I decided to do the 30day challenge, I had in mind always to make it "eco friendly".
So how does fasting, spiritual retreat and healthy eating relate to being eco friendly? Well, everything relates to everything.
What I mean by that is that:

1. by fasting-we are abstaining from food and material things. This is a time to CLEANSE our bodies as well as our mind and our environment. We should take the time to CLEAN our surroundings, donate extra items we no longer need and really look into what we have as we would like to experience a life of SIMPLICITY.

2. by doing a spiritual retreat-we are abstaining from DISTRACTIONS that sometimes take time away and make us use more things which we do not need. We can direct our time and efforts into giving more than receiving and this includes to animals, plants and the environment in general. Making a connection between God's words/instructions and what we can do to improve our life here on earth. Some people realize this connection very quickly and profoundly when their work has to do with nature because Nature is in God's hands. No matter how much you water a plant, God has the ultimate power to make it grow.

3. By eating healthier, we are eating more fruits and vegetables, trying to maybe compost the remains, plant their seeds, support local and organic farms and loosing weight, therefore gaining more energy to accomplish more.

Everything can be related to everything. So this concept helps when we want to accomplish a task but we have certain restrictions (time or money for example).

1. So while you drive, you can listen to a nice informative lecture
2. While you walk around the block, you can do remembrance of God (dhikr)
3. While you cook or clean, listen to some Quran or spiritual uplifting music/lectures

Or try other methods of "combining" so that you can accomplish much more each time you do something and it becomes more meaningful and perhaps you can start a new habit.

The reason why we have a 30day challenge is to encourage us to "try out" things which we thought were not possible to do and if we can maintain those for 30days, they can become part of our life and part of our daily habits.
-not everything is easy and can be maintained but if we push ourselves, we can definitely achieve ANYTHING we want in this life.

Having to do the challenge and remembering to be eco-friendly makes it much more special because we get an extra reward when we look to take care of this planet earth and we think of it as an "amana" or trust and we take the trust very seriously because God has provided us with all this beauty and we need to remember to leave it BETTER than when we first saw it....

Inshallah.

new healthy habits

We are almost at the 10day check!
I have achieve a few of the many goals this month.

I realized these goals are not simple and not something that is a one timer type thing....
My goals are ON GOING and also I realized to make them happen I have to make changes in my habits and make them a fun part of my life.
Otherwise, if I see them as "tasks", I will not enjoy them and probably not accomplish as much or as well as I want to.

I also heard a lecture of someone explaining that if you want success, you must change your paradigm, you have to think OUTSIDE the box and come up with "extra time", either sleep less, wake up early or simply do not waste time so that you can utilize all your energy toward your goal(s). These tips go hand in hand with what God wants us to do in terms of organizing our life an this month of fasting is the time we make those changes and implement them as new healthy Habits!

So if you do not feel as motivated as I am, PRAY and ask God to make you feel the changes and slowly adapt to your new way of thinking. Instead of going back to the same old habits where you feel stressed, depressed and find yourself not enjoying things in life.
Prayer has the solution to all problems because it is your one chance to explain to God one on one all your frustrations and He can help you in ways you can't even imagine.

Best wishes!

Day 4 Teachers+Reflection

WOW I am beyond impressed with my teachers. May God preserve them!
I am learning so much daily that I can't be thankful enough.
I pray that they be rewarded for all of their time and dedication and that all their wishes come true.

So I learned this morning that if I want something to happen, I MUST give it my ALL. If I want to learn something, I should not just read about it, I should use all my senses, read, re-read, write down, act upon, memorize and teach it to ensure that I have learned it.
Wow.
What a discovery!

I also learned that doing less of what harms us will make us live longer!
so how do we know what is "harmful"? sometimes it is obvious and sometimes it is not.

If we have a feeling that is not a good one, we know that we must get rid of it or else our body will be affected.
If we understand that certain foods will cause problems in our body,we know we must stop consuming them or else our body will slowly shut down.
If we know we surround ourselves with the wrong crowd and slowly, they lead us astray, we know we must avoid those encounters or else our heart slowly will begin to accept this way of life and move away from what is good for us.

We seek, we find.
or else, we stay behind.

If something new is presented to us, we have two options:
1. follow the new understanding
2. stay with the old ways of life.

Sometimes, it is wise to remain on the course we were at.
OFTEN times however, it is better for us to "digest" the new information and "put into practice".

When passages from Quran were revealed the companions of the Prophet pbuh used to read, understand, accept, memorize and FOLLOW the new direction from God before going on to the next verse.
It was this practice that lead them to "grow" as individuals and become our examples to follow today.

So with new information at hand, let's motivate ourselves, take it as a "DUTY" to apply what we learn if there is a way to do so or at least share the information and verify that it is correct and try to implement it into our daily lives.

If we have goals at this point, we should be experiencing them, give our body and our mind an opportunity to work in unison to accomplish them in a smooth way.

I feel VERY motivated and inspired after listening to my teachers and I hope we find the right teachers, those who by sharing their knowleadge lead us to changing our heart. Whether they be in books, in lectures, in person or in our memory. We must realize that education lives on and reflection is what makes us grow.

Take the time to reflect on is learned.
Take the time to be thankful to God for all He provides us with.
And be ready to seek Mercy from God as much as possible, these first 10 days of this month.

DAY 2 breathing/eating and purification

Yesterday I heard a lecture that talked about breathing for purification. How we breathe affects our cells and our brain.
So they said the best time to do breathing exercises is 3am to 5am in the morning.
Well, since we are up at that time for eating and prayer, I decided to do yoga and breathing at 3am.
It was amazing! I loved it and I hope to do it again tomorrow morning.
Then I kept drinking juice/water after to replenish toxins that leave the body.

By the way, now that I understand all the chemicals in tap water (including one that causes infertility!!!!!), even after using a filter...I decided to try to buy the best water ever to break fast with (I'm out of it now...) but then I also just read another article that talks about the 100% not from concentrate orange juice which I buy and usually its more expensive and I was just upset.

Now the word on anything printed is to be checked and triple checked....they add addictive, preservatives in everything unless it's organic and raw...yes, even if it says "pure 100% juice" etc.

We have to be aware that when we Purify our bodies and our mind, we have to give it THE BEST that we can get our hands on when we feed it. AND accept only the best if possible. Allah swt provides us with so many beautiful things, all fruits and vegetables on all the possible colors and color combinations, why do we add so much junk into it? How are we ever going to purify ourselves when we eat the junk? Do we have to over cook and deep fry things? do we have to add sweets or salts to things to eat them? can we eat them in their pure form??? Just like Allah swt intended us to eat them??

just cause it tastes good...
just cause we were fasting...
who are we fooling but ourselves....

Day 1-iPurify/Silence and reflection

I just read something so sweet from the late Dr. Hassan Hathout that made me think so much. It was a piece from his latest book "audible silence"...it talked about "SILENCE" and how through meditation we can hear GOD and HE can solve our problems and make everything more clear.

This Ramadan I do hope to do some itikaf time. Some reflection and "QUIET" time inshallah. This, not only for extra ibada but also to try to "listen" to God's guidance. We live in an all fast-passed environment and we can actually CREATE our own peaceful times.

I definitley want to try it.

So far it's an amazing day and inshallah it'll get even better!
Remember: Read Quran. Listen to inspiring lectures. Pray, make extra Dhikr. Pray for those in need. Donate. Make food for neighbors (or cookies). Dhikr/songs that remind you of God.

Happy RAMADAN!

BLESSINGS!
May God accept all our efforts to come closer to HIM, ameen!

Day one of our 30-day fast STARTS tomorrow 4:40am!!! (Fontana CA times)
(make sure to eat and drink something healthy to start your day and do not eat or drink anything until fast is over at 7:50pm and try to have some dates, fruits, water or milk when breaking fast before eating processed foods. Try to remember God in ALL YOU DO and keep your TONGUE moist with HIS remembrance.

I hope everyone who has joined this challenge enjoys every minute of it and asks God for guidance and forgiveness throughout this blessed month! Make lots of duas and prayers asking God whatever you want as it is said that a prayer that is said during a fast is accepted!

If we have a small but doable plan, we will succeed in all we set out to do! Remember, ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is possible!

May God make it easy and an amazing journey for us all and may we learn some practical and beneficial "habits" that we can keep with us for the rest of the year.

Whatever OUR GOALS are, this is the time to reflect and direct all our intention, attention, love and positive energy to them and we must remember to USE our TIME wisely.

Best wishes to you all.
Ramadan Kareem
peace!

wonderful gathering at the park

We had a wonderful gathering at the meetup group in Rancho! It was awesome to be out on the park and it wasn't so hot after all!!!
I love how we get opportunities to just enjoy life, meet people and see our children interacting with one another.
These are all blessings and I am so grateful.

Another good news, Ronan's white blood count is improving! this means his body is accepting the bone marrow that was transplanted in him.
Very happy for the family and we hope he continues to improve and become one of the strongest boys I know!!!!

8. Prepare for IMPORTANT things in life such as HAJJ or Ramadan
9. focus on making the most out of Beautiful SPIRITUAL opportunities
10. Spend less time in socializing, use time more wisely, prepare myself for the future with each step I take (saving, learning, studying, advancing, organizing, cleaning etc)

organizing +de-cluttering

Today was a de-cluttering day.
A lot was put away and things were really only left if they are absolute necessities.

It feels much lighter all around.
It feels so much healthier and beautiful!

I have yet to de-clutter clothes and useless things including paper work and books and other items that I will donate so de-clutter the house.

The less, the more space, the more beautiful, the clearer one can think!

I have been gardening and planting out of my compost as new plants are growing and some I have no idea what they are. I'll simply take care of them and water them and plant them somewhere when I feel they are small for their pot!

I love going out on nature and exploring what new life is being created on a DAILY basis.

I saw yesterday Jalapeno chilies out and about!!! wow how exciting is that!!!!
I heard eating them red and ripe is super healthy. We often use them while in their green state so they are much more stronger and spicier...

The coming month of July will be a very busy one. Couple weddings, baby showers, but I would like to focus on a calendar I created while on the plane back from New Orleans. According to my calendar, I have to focus on getting things ready and not loosing my main focus, I have to finish translations and few goals for this month. Once I get that down, I will certainly feel accomplished and ready to move on but with my clear goals I feel it'll be much easier to succeeded in anything I set myself out to do.

Day 25

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO busy today!!!
but we had a wonderful time at the ticket sale! We made a good chunk of $$$ but we got to pay back a lot of people so let's see.
Today Ronan started his Chemotherapy. We prayed for him and will continue to do so!
Here is a picture of today's sales. We were selling books, flowers and gift baskets, all to get everyone's attention. And people gave generously.
May God reward each and everyone's donations and intentions.
Give love and love will return to you.
Give money and money will come back to you.

Multiplied.

Pertaining to this blog:
Yesterday I planted flowers, I dug up the compost.
I cleared up some weeds.
Zero waste yes
Zero spending (depends because I did buy some things for the sale which I hope to get reimbursed for that...)
Raw Food-not today or yesterday ( and I miss it!)
making money? we are getting there!

peas be with you!
(yes try raw peas!!!)

day 23 of the eco-friendly challenge

-de-cluttered office room
-dug up the compost
-will plant flowers today!
-raw food? AM only so far...
-zero spending:depends, day is not done and got to do some payments.
-zero waste in the home: I have re-used and recycled most items this week. Only trash was an "accident" my older son broke a glass and I had to throw away. Also we had some meat leftovers that I can't put into compost and lastly, the never ending diapers! Other that that, no other trash this week.

Definitely getting challenging now because so much going on for fundraiser.
We got confirmation from Former "napoleon" from Tuppac/outlaw band to come to fundraiser to give a small motivational talk to Rachel and Ronan's family. We are very happy they are visiting from Saudi but don't have time to accommodate him as a regular speaker because our schedule is already set.
Please buy tickets before they run out!!!!

"I'll be there"....

I can't post the link at all in Blogger for some reason.
So the song I wanted to post is called "I'll be there" by Michael Jackson.
Thanks to Blogger.com you guys can look it up on youtube.

Day 19-Michael Jackson!

I'm behind on posts but today I'm taking sort of a day off, to spend with family, to really give them more time.
I'm really gonna make some more changes to really have that quality time.
Family comes first, and if that means reducing some activities, that's what it means! No other way around it!

1. I planted the compost this morning
2. had raw foods for breakfast (had some meat) but now I"ll try to keep it as much raw as possible.
3. De cluttered yesterday different parts of my house! it felt wonderful, including my multi-purpose kitchen drawer!!!!
4. No spending (no spending at all except necessities or things for the house.)

I been listening to Michael Jackson a lot lately, his older songs in particular. The lyrics are so amazing.
He really loved people, he loved to share that love. If you pay attention, there's really love that he was after and wanted to share that with the world.

So this link goes out to our dear brother Mikael Jackson. may he rest in peace and may all his good deeds and love illuminate his grave, now until the day of judgement.

day 15 closing time

So I am extremely tired but I promised I would input what I accomplished today.
I was Raw foods half of the day. My parents came to visit so we made barbecue.

I de-cluttered parts of all the house, I made every room look beautiful (except bedroom..I need to work on it!!!)

I dug up the compost (big one by the way) the soil now is so soft and moist in that area, it is beautiful, we got something growing, I'm not sure what plant it is....

Zero waste yes, so far so great! Our only trash is basically diapers now. I'm still working on my husband letting me do cloth but he is just not supportive at this time and I understand.

I didn't plant anything today BUT I spoke to the boys from boy scouts of America and they really want to start up the group again. So, I thought maybe just maybe we can do it!!!
I want to find a leader for them and see what we can do. Activities have to be fun and hands on like gardening. I can teach them basics and they will have so much fun. It's a matter of organizing them in the right way.

I'm so excited about tomorrow, I may get some young visitors and I'm really looking forward to seeing those little girls. They are so loving and super fun! Let's see how the day goes.

peace!

Day 15?

WOW how time goes so fast!
I'm sorry I wasn't able to blog yesterday.

We had exciting things happening at our local masjid!
Channel 7 Eye witness news came to film us in preparation for Ronan Godfrey's Fundraiser banquet June 18th.
I had a confirmation call from Miriam Hernandez at 6:30am and had until 10am to get people to the masjid as fast as possible.
I think it was very nice and they did an excellent job at reporting this meeting.
I'm thankful to channel 7 and Miriam Hernandez for coming out to support this interfaith event.

I was so busy that I didn't have breakfast, I had water and later one of the members brought some snacks and I ate whatever was there alhamdulilah.

Anyhow, so now I really have a lot to work on.
Here are some of the things I did yesterday and some which I plan on doing today:

1. I plan on digging up the compost and planting "fig seeds".
2. I have to get some essentials from the store but will return some items also
3. I hope to declutter the bedroom!
4. I hope to eat as much Raw as possible today (so far so good)
5. Remember the "making money" challenge? well, my efforts are slowly paying off (can't say much yet!)

I will be super busy today making phone calls, sending emails but I will try to blog again later on the day to see if I accomplished the tasks I had set for today.

Yesterday I don't think I was able to accomplish any of my challenges at all, my day was busy since I got up LOL

have a great day

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Day 14

I'm so excited about today!
I will try my best to go 100% raw today.
I plan on planting roses and I have a "fig" seed that I also would like to plan.
I tried this fig from the masjid (maybe neighbors tree that fell on masjid property) and it was soooo delicious I kept the seed and I hope to plant it.

I hope I will spend zero today and I hope there will be zero waste.
Anything is possible!
we have to be strong and focused, not get distracted and we can do anything we really want to do. Inshallah.

Day 13

This weekend was not all raw.
I'm so disappointed in myself.
At the same time, I put the blame on my husband since he refused to let me take my veggies to the conference. I told him don't buy me lunch I'll take my own but he said no. He also told me no cloth diapers. So the kids had to wear regular diapers.

But overall, I can't complain, I had a wonderful time at the conference meeting people, seeing my sweet friends and just the overall positive energy.
The problem is this Monday is holiday so it's considered part of the long "weekend"...so I said to myself, well eating cooked this weekend is fine for now...
I had coffee and I'm eating a lemon loaf from Starbucks lol.

I can't wait to go raw again. I just feel so bloated. Even at the conference I felt like my stomach bulged out.
So no more of that, I must go back to raw and feel the beauty and power of God's creation for us.

I met a couple people who went on the raw food diet for different reasons.
One for a personal health issue and one to cheat the doctors and show them that nothing is wrong at their check up! that was so clever. She said she does it every year. She goes raw 1 week before her physical and her check up is always 100%! ha!

What did I plant today?
I planted the compost today, and took out weeds...tomorrow I want to plant roses.

Zero waste today?
yes. Everything I recycled or re-used, and I composted left over food and scraps. I probably had to throw away one thing (my metal straw for mate...I'll have to get a new one).

Raw today?
NOPE! but tomorrow inshallah

Zero spending?
nope. I got Starbucks coffee and cake

De-clutter?
YES! the fridge!

Read Quran?
nope. not today.
I have to set up a time inshallah.
i feel like I'm doing so much but this is so much more important!
Inshallah I will push myself.

good deed?
yes, actually I would like to share this one so we can play it forward.
Please treat everyone like a wonderful human being.
Today when I got my coffee, the girl over the speaker was so funny and polite, I decided to pull out a rose from my car and give it to her. I told her "this is for being so awesome" and she was so incredibly happy.

I love doing things like that. It's random and fun.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This Saturday June 4th we have an event on Healthy Eating! I hope a lot of people can make it! It's to help Ronan in a way (collected donations will go to his fundraiser banquet).
Please come!

Sunday May 29th

What an amazing convention! This has been so much fun and so productive.

I have met some of the most amazing people here in RIS. Some of them I am so inspired by and I want to work with. They move people! They move nations!
Others I spoke to, unfortunately are asleep...they are just "doing their job"..

I have kept zero waste mostly, even taking my trash home.
Saturday went like this:

zero waste=yes
planting=yes, before leaving to the conference, I planted the flowers I had soaked overnight. I also planted the beans and the daily compost....actually I had a lot so I had to make 2holes.

De-Clutter=van and some areas of the fridge and hallway's shelf.
Zero spending=nope. I wrote checks but most were donations or books/audio. I find that this is THE HARDEST challenge!

Raw Foods=nope. my husband didn't want me taking veggies to the conference as they don't allow food except snacks/water or juice....
But I felt bloated and still do. My stomach bulged out as I ate cooked food for 2 days. I felt pregnant, even a close friend asked me if I was! That was a bit embarrassing but hey I don't mind, it's true, my tummy was bulging out, really bad.

I can't wait to go back to my beautiful, clean organic raw foods. I can't wait.
I love it and feel so good alhamdulilah.

day 11th-positive energy and Ayurveda

I just re-read my last post, sorry I think I was in a hurry, I hate spelling mistakes and things that make no sense. It's just hard to edit on blogger. So once I hit post, that's what will be saved...

I'm still thinking of Elena and her Ayurveda practice, wow, she's just amazing. I'm glad I kept in touch after the affiyah program (a program I started for fitness in my community but wasn't successful.)

I know exactly why it wasn't successful, I was surrounded by wonderful people who are overworked. And one more project that was for women only wasn't gonna be pulled out of a hat. I had to do most of the work and still I didn't do as well as I thought the program should be.

When I interviewed Elena, she was wearing white. She was outstanding and OVER qualified. She has a Masters and has been a yogi for a number of years. On top of that, she studies and has a passion for Ayurveda practice (which I had no idea what it was about).

When she started explaining it I was like wow, give me more information, I started taking notes and she told me what kind of person I am because I'm small, I have too many ideas, I write things down, I'm excited and talk a lot (and do a lot). I'm a combination of "vata" and "pitta", my husband who is so relaxed, he's a bigger structure, has beautiful hair mashallah and is just overall peaceful is a "kapha" and so in Ayurveda this has so much to do with what you SHOULD eat and what you SHOULD DO to make sure you are in balance.

WOW! blows my mind away! I love these ancient healing practices, we're talking about something so sacred that has been passed down through generations and has healed so many people. Amazing stuff, I'm thirsty to learn more.

Look for Elena at her new practice, she named it "Alta-Veda" or "higher knowledge", veda=sounds like vida..but really means knowledge. Beautiful, she speaks Spanish too...that's where the "Alta" comes in...

I love beautiful people, carrying people, people that see beauty everywhere. I simply want to surround myself with that kind of strong positive vive, it just sort of fills you up so much and it's just all you need sometimes.

I have so much to do, I have to pray now as it is 5am-this is the best way to start your day followed by some kind of morning remembrance. I play that cd in the morning and evening as it is recommended to remember God much and this way He will remember us and He will guide us and He will send his blessings upon us inshallah.

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend and look at whatever you will do with the most positive eye and when you feel negativity try to fight off that feeling and to help yourself seek the right people, the right help, surround yourself with those who are on the same wave length as you, not those who you don't feel a strong connection or those who waste your time.

Everyone is beautiful in their own way but that doesn't mean if you been friends for years that now you realize that staying away from a person will actually benefit you.
Break that bond for God's sake and don't be afraid of anything other than displeasing God.
Be true to YOURSELF and give yourself what you deserve.

peace!

what an amazing day!

wow, what an amazing day!
I can't even believe the things that happened today...

1. I was interviewed by ABC
2. I went to see a friend
3. I visited Amy's farm and we even had a relaxing picnic!
4. I then went to pick up some pictures of my kids and myself that were taken at vons (surprisingly) and I met an awesome person who works at nabisco.
5. I then had someone AMAZING over, someone who is a yogi and an expert on Ayurveda healing.
Beautiful day and full of amazing surprises.

We are off to RIS conference this weekend so I will probably not be able to blog

Things I planted today:
the compost

Zero waste?
I had to throw away a few items

Zero spending?
I had to buy some juice and milk for the kids (silk almond milk!)

Raw foods?
I had chai tea today and a few cookies my friend brought for me.

I have a lot to improve and I will but I'm getting there. There's a transition time that I have to go through.

If you watch the movie "no impact man" you will know what I mean. He does a "one year producing zero waste" so there is a period of "transition" where he has to pay for things to be taken out of his home etc. So for me, I'm also going through that process, everything can't be done overnight some of my days....and not every day is the same....

Day 10 on the Raw!

I don't know, maybe I skipped saying it was day 9 yesterday. But it's ok.

Today we're going to the farm! I'm so excited, I should take the kids and go weekly!
yesterday was a very busy day, we spend a lot of time in the masjid (or mosque) I got permission to start planting in the old place yay!!!! I'm so excited I don't even know what to plant! I talked to the gardener there, he's a really nice guy and his son was helping him. They worked there for hours. I was there at least 2hours and they were doing so much.

Anyhow, yesterday was mainly raw, probably I had some bread but that was it. Even dinner was simple: young coconut meat, 1 avocado, 1 mango and watermelon. It wasn't prepared any-way, it was just plain and simple I think I added salt and pepper to the avocado but that's all. Delicious.

My friend got a bit sick on the raw food diet, she has a fever. I'm a bit concerned. I'm hoping it's nothing serious, I think it's part of detoxifying as we may get headache or nausea or a number of other things in the process (I was preparing myself for something...)

I'm not sure I'm allergic to coconut but I cough a lot after eating or drinking it (specially the fresh one)....weird!
I'm excited I realized I LOVE YOUNG COCONUTS!!!! they are perfect food, they have the meat to fill you and the juice to quench your thirst! Wonderful.

The neighbor's plants are blowing! I miss my neighbor he hasn't come by in a long time. I think I will visit him (him and his wife live across the street). I lend him a book on gardening and I was hoping he would tell me something about it (if he liked it or found it useful) he seems to know so much about gardening, his garden is full of stuff.

As I look out the window, I see our palm tree full with what looks like dates....but they are green, not sure the process or if that's what it is...I'll have to find out.

Anyhow, I have a lot to do as I'm having a guest in the afternoon so I got to organize this place!

peace!

new book: Raising Raw Children

So yesterday I got a hold of an excellent book it's called "Raising Raw Children" by Ka Sundance and Katie Flint. The authors are my friends now and I believe in their work 100% (they don't even suggest eating 100% raw but that raw foods: veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, seaweed, sprouts, superfoods etc are the way to go and that's what we should be eating the most.

I noticed my kids after eating raw for 1week have been craving raw. I serve cooked food and they rather have a fresh fruit smoothie or whatever I made fresh or a piece of fruit. Try it for yourself and you'll see!

So I'm very excited about this book because the authors are parents of 4 beautiful children and they homeschool them and teach them how to be healthy. (they spend a lot of time with their kids-and I think that's what parents need to do to enjoy them, understand them and Have FUN WITH THEM!!!

I once saw a video that changed everything for me.
Their kids pulled out some fruit from a tree and were so happy eating it, THEN, they pulled out the leaves and they were eating it as if it was candy!!!! I was shocked and that is amazing!

Now lets say we are in crisis and no food around, well, our earth provides us with so much, it's a matter of knowing whats good for us and we don't even have to cook it! we simply pull it out from earth, dust it off and eat it! it is soooo nourishing!

If you want this book please contact me directly and we can arrange.

I just love raw food, the more I eat it, the more I feel good, healthier, energized and feel a connection with the vegetation around me, I can't wait to go to my backyard!

my day...a beautiful one by the way!

I'm having jasmine tea.
Everyone that knows me has heard and tried some jasmine tea, otherwise I'm not sure you know me lol.
It is the best thing ever!
I love the smell, the taste and the qualities of it:
helps with depression, anxiety, stress and helps you sleep better, list goes on and on.

Store owners
I got mine from the Indian shop across the Rancho masjid (baseline and hellmen), if you go, tell them I sent you (gaby) i know the owners...
I realized that knowing the owners of every store I go to is awesome.
Not just to "know them" but to hear their stories and how they got there and their future projects etc.

Some store owners will open up more than others and that's ok...they don't have to tell everything to their customers but I like when they are sincere and I can tell.

Our kids learn from us!
One thing to point out here...I noticed that everything we do, our kids are watching.
So in conversations, even with adults, I include them. If they have a question, suggestion or anything, I listen to them and I make a point to tell the other adult what they are saying. I think it's fair and works fine with me unless they are just trying to get my attention for no reason.

Today was no zero spending....
I went on a shopping spree....I'm ashamed to say BUT!!! it was for several reasons, one, I plan on selling some items in order to make profit and donate to Ronan's fundraiser and my poor account that's off the hook, I think it must have a hole now LOL!
I got some items for the house too like new bathroom stuff cause they other stuff was like 4years old. I felt like I needed a change. Those are things I don't want "used or borrowed" I rather pick my own style and go.

Did I plant something today?
Yes and no.
Yes at someone else's house, lots of stuff! But our house nope, nothing except the daily compost.

Did I read Quran?
I'm going to now. I'm actually reallllllllllly excited, I got these nice clips from target, which I can label a page and write notes etc. I love that stuff, so practical!

Zero waste?
Mostly yes, I didn't throw anything away except hisham's diapers...bilal seems good on cloth but I got a softer detergent, the one I was using gave him a rash.
With cloth diapers you have to use less detergent, the detergent you use will last soooo long!

Ka sundance's books arrived today, They are amazing! I read a few pages but can't wait to read them all.
I think we will sale them at our next RAW food 101 which will be this coming Sat June 4th in Rancho. I'm really excited I'll do a blog just on that cause we got so many people coming! very exciting.

I have no idea what to prepare for dinner...I'll see what I can do. I feel like having some fruity desert, maybe I'll just make a typical fruit salad...something simple, no nuts. I been making stuff with nuts left and right...let's go more natural lol

Day 8-ELIMINATION is the KEY to HEALTH!!!!!

Wow, I think I got all my tasks done Yesterday:

planted something: the compost and an avocado tree!!!! (not me, the neighbor's son!)

zero waste: yes (except diapers for hisham....but I have to transition somehow..that's the only trash now)

No spending: yes, I didn't buy anything (wait a minute...maybe i did online I forgot what it was but it was for either ROnan or to sale for Ronan's fundraiser....something to do with him)

De-clutter: yes, I thought I had guests coming so I cleaned up all the rooms and my van etc

Ate Raw: yes MOSTLY and throughout the day EXCEPT at night time when we went to my mother in law's house....there I ate some cooked things including chicken...not too much of anything mostly was raw but I did try some because now I'm having issues with my husband saying I'm exaggerating by eating all raw...
I don't get it but whatever, I did it for him, not for me and I found the food was tasting not as good as before. It is as if my taste buds are way more clean now and the food was just not as good, as a matter of fact I think I was tasting the metal of the pan it was cooked on!!!!! crazy stuff...but that's what I tasted.

I made a couple raw dishes yesterday including a raw goji berry pie, it was delicious. I put ton of superfoods like vega, raw cocoa powder, raw honey, flax seed oil, olive oil and much more, I put everything in there, it's more than powerful you can only eat one slice.

about my other goal/reading Quran:
I think instead of "reading Quran" daily, I want to memorize a passage, not a page, not a chapter, a line with thought, something I can refer to for inspiration or guidance....I like this idea better. This way, I will read Quran's explanation and maybe the whole passage's intro etc...and it'll be more useful to me that I would be able to plug in this in conversations to prove my points....

David Wolfe
I was listening to David wolfe a lot yesterday, boy he's in another level of consciousness. Some may disagree with him but he's just out of this world. He claims that we are living paradise and hell here on earth, there's no other place (this goes against scriptures but he is christian)...I don't think he means it LITERALLY but what he means in a way (and this is my understanding) is that have the capacity to CREATE life as we want it to be.

For some people, let's take those who are incarcerated. One prisoner will see life as HELL, like nothing else can be worst than being imprisoned. And the other might see like as paradise, he goes from his sell to outside and so forth thanking God for being there, seeing beauty in everyone (some how) using his time in meditation, appreciating life, exercising, working on something, reading, maybe he feels like "boy, this is the perfect thing for me, this is just what I needed, a sort of retreat, thank you God".

He also talked about elimination and how that is the key to health.
It is SOoooooooooooo true, people who are constipated have a lot of different problems and I think we will discuss this at our meeting June 4th in Rancho. It is extremely important that we talk about this and make sure people understand they should be going to the bathroom (for #2) at least once a day or more! that's what is healthy. Otherwise you are not healthy, the toxins get absorbed BACK INTO YOUR BODY and that's why you get headaches, pimples, chronic fatigue, etc! We have to understand why we have problems, not trying to solve them. Go back to the ROOT of them all!

Very interesting concepts....

anyhow, I have a lot of work to do today, I'm sure everything will be accomplished and I'm excited of all the things I got to do and hope to talk to some people too.

peace

what is necessary?

I'm upset with blogger.com, it's not letting me post David Wolfe for some reason.
Look him up on youtube.
type in "what is natural and necessary" and that's all I need to say

Day 7

I don't feel like counting the days on Raw foods. My days are longer now, more fun, more energized, I got more time and I feel so good alhamdulilah.
I will post more later as I'm running late on visiting a friend.
Love and sunshine!

the best day ever!!!!!

wow, what a day! I think today was the best day ever! or was it yesterday? or will it be tomorrow? I dunno...
Today was amazing, we went to a raw food cafe/store, got ton of awesome stuff! And we had fun. I had spaghetti and meatballs, all raw (absolutely no meat) DELICIOUS, I was in love! I need to learn how to make this!
Can't write much, kids cranky but here's the review of the day:

de-clutter-: the bathroom
didn't spend? eeekkkk, I did- but it was for survival and also to transition....
Zero waste? YES, except a few diapers, I now have all I need to go completely cloth!

planted? yes, the compost...not something to grow but almost planted the avocado tree...neighbors suggested to wait till my hubby gets home to make sure he likes location...

RAW FOOD? Yes, today I was 100% raw!
Made money? Today no...but I bought things (as investments) to sale and I hope this weekend I will! AND I came up with an absolutely awesome idea for a business! yay! (working from home!)

what a beautiful day! I now need to pray to thank God for everything and ask him for renewal of intentions and to help me through my challenges!

peace!

MILK YUCK!!!! www.notmilk.com

ohhh goodness, here we go again about milk, yet another reason NOT to drink milk is the PUSS that is ALLOWED in the MILK everyone drinks. YA ALLAH!!!
I can't believe this!!!!
Now anyone who is a mother will understand that if you are feeding your baby breast milk and baby doesn't get full, you need to "take a break" and put the baby down because it LITERALLY hurts to keep feeding the child. Naturally, you need to stop feeding baby, take a break so that more milk will be produced inshallah.

When I see the cows being connected to machines, being sucked constantly and lights on at the factories so they think it's day light, what do you think gets sucked out of them????? PUSS and BLOOD!!!! duhhh

WHATEVER, people just don't want to hear it but it's true, why do we support milk man? I don't' get it!!!!
yes it is in our scriptures to go get milk if we need from cows that are treated justly and naturally on the fields NOT what we have today were we feed them garbage and connect them to machines and turn on lights constantly that is not natural!!!!!

Go to the farm, go milk a cow and drink that, and be content but don't tell me that buying milk from the market is good for you, got milk? NO I DON'T!!!! and I do not need it!
here is all the research and numbers of how much PUSS IS ALLOWED IN MILK PRODUCTS:
www.notmilk.com

I'm posting a 2minute video (no graphics safe to watch) of a farmer who talks about how farmers don't eat the animals in their farm!

new challenge-starting in JUNE

in June for 1month (only on Sundays) I will prepare food to feed the homeless. I LOVE THIS PROJECT and I hope people are interested in helping some wonderful people who have been doing this for so long! this will be their break as I'm taking over.

I want to make warm, delicious food for the homeless for this whole month of June and in turn, I hope to "make up" my missed fasts. Of course it is not the same making up fasts vs feeding the poor. It is better to fast if one is able to. But knowing my body and myself, it will be hard for me to make up 3months of missed fasts because of pregnancy or post partum....I am crazy excited about this and I hope it works out!

Day 6-not shopping is not easy

So we have arrived at day 6 in raw foods....I had something cooked yesterday I have to admit. I picked up pizza for the kids and family and on the way delivering it I had TWO SLICES!!!!! IT was delicious and I'll say I got it from Al Madina pizza on the corner of Baseline and carnelian, wow I love that pizza, but you know, sure enough an hour or two after I had this nasty feeling in my stomach. I felt bloated.
It was the bread, the cheese and the meat. (yes it was a chicken pizza)...so sometimes we give in to our taste buds...but that's all, its nothing more than the smell, the taste but has reduced nutritional values...

I think of this...when you make your dishes. I noticed on the raw food, it's a matter of simple "rinsing" my dishes. I don't even have to wash with soap unless I have used an oil (like olive oil or coconut oil)...I usually can rinse all food out of pots, plates and it looks like new.

When I have "cooked food" left over, it's a different story. Very quickly the cooked food will stick to the plates and it takes some soaking for it to come off and even then, I have to scrub.

I figured you know...this is happening in our insides too! The cooked food gets stuck to our insides and it may take a day or two or sometimes years for all that to exit out bodies.

On the raw food diet I feel like I'm constantly cleansing, detoxifying, it feels really wonderful.
I have already lost weight. I don't measure myself, I don't like that. But I saw myself in the mirror...
and I don't care about loosing weight really, I care about feeling good and telling people about it! It's so simple, ,easy, anyone can do it!

about shopping. So, yes yesterday I shopped. I had some money and was able to shop and get "diapers" that my husband sent me to get, I got a few other things (mostly not for me) and I got the pizza... So I did spend, I want to say approximately $100. That all was for projects I have and gifts to give away as I rather give something healthy than something that is not useful.

Yesterday I met a pastor on the church next to our masjid. His name is bruce. He was clueless about our beliefs and I was shocked as we are neighbors! I told him we believe in Jesus and Mary and he told me "no you don't!" I had to explain that yes, we do and respect them very much and we even have a chapter on Mary in our Quran.

I need to visit him again. lol

Then I did some business errands, it was very productive yesterday alhamdulilah.
Also yesterday Adil our wonderful friend who is working on fundraiser printed a banner for Ronan and also the letters we will send to invite people to come to the banquet. I'm really excited this is wonderful.

I de-cluttered my husband's car. (if that counts) and as far as planting, yesterday I planted flowers. Today I might plant some new seeds I got which are also organic. I got this one which is a weed looking grass, it can be cut to make tea but it serves as food and play area for our cat! I was so excited. I can't wait for it to grow so he can play with it!

As far as "making money" today I will talk to some people regarding some business ideas...I did that yesterday too it was more than fun.

It's trying to help people and getting something in return. I love it!

OHHH and we made a pledge at KPFK radio. that we would get the Longevity Dvd set by David Wolfe. I told them I want it! It was $150 but told them I can't shop until next month so please bill me and they will.
So that was all of yesterday and today I got some new ideas of de-cluttering, planting, creating business, eating raw and ZERO WASTE (which is probably the easiest challenge I got to say) I'm used to zero waste now that I learned to compost the right way. It's way easier for me, it mostly goes back into the ground. I even put the things I collect after I clean my floors, everything mostly can be composted or recycled but even my recycled items I'm not even throwing away, I'm washing them and using for kids toys.
it's fun!

What Muslims Stand for

So I was wondering what I can do to change the world. How my word can actually reach the hearts of many. I'm a humble Muslim mom of two who homeschools and gardens. What can I do? I can do a LOT!
I just read a wonderful article by my father in law Dr. Aslam Abdullah (may Allah swt reward him and be pleased with him) whom I respect and love very much. He inspires me a lot and motivates me so much to "DO". He does a lot of work, sometimes I don't even know what he's doing but alhamdulilah I'm very proud of him!

This article was very clear and it made perfect sense as we are faced with radical Muslims who do things and sort of "represent" the rest of us who are trying to be balanced, active in our communities and live Islam in the best ways, accepting our neighbors-regardless of faith, color, race-we are thought to live in PEACE and share LOVE with every human being and living things on this earth.

This is an old article, but still has a lot of goodness in it and it teaches us and inspires us to understand each other and try to work together as Americans, loving our country, protecting our rights and working for God's sake.
NOT what FEW individuals do and say and DO NOT represent us Muslims.
We stand for truth, love, compassion, respect, PEACE and living in harmony.
We respect LIFE and are THANKFUL to what GOD has given us.

thank you for writing it:

Day 5 on the Raw

I decided to come up with a chart. This way, I can fill it in on a daily basis.

so here it goes:

TODAY
Did I eat Raw foods?
So far no, it's too early. But I will make my morning tea.

Did I spend money?
nope.

What did I plant today?
I just planted the compost, and some botanical flowers "sweat peas..It has a longer name but I can't read it because I broke the package..."Lathyus ode.."

Did I de-clutter one area of my house/life?
not yet. Yesterday I de-cluttered the "tea shelf"

Did I throw away anything? (zero waste in the home)
Yes, last night I through out an old soup mix from the de-cluttered tea shelf.

Did I read some Quran?
Not yet. Yesterday I did because I was preparing for today's class. But perhaps I'll read a bit more today.

What are my plans today?
-I got class int he morning and in the afternoon my husband wants to go out somewhere...maybe to see wild flowers or to the farm. I have to call and see if they will be opened today or not.
I probably want to de-clutter a place int he home, maybe the office room which can be chaotic. or the garage...we will see.

I also need to de-clutter my closet. We have wayyyy toooo much stuff!

let's see how this wonderful day goes

Lecture on Jesus

update: I didn't eat anything cooked! YAY!!!! There was delicious food but I didn't really crave any of it. I was satisfied with nice, fresh, organic lettuce wraps! And lots of raw veggies/fruits and nut desert I made. For drinks, I brought acai juice and almond water (milk).

It was awesome, now I had some vitamins+supplements and I'm thinking of making tea. I'm not tired...on the contrary, I fixed my kitchen, did all dishes and now I plan on checking some online sights.

Next weekend is RIS conference! So that's something amazing to look forward to inshallah.
I'm listening to an AWESOME!!!! lecture on Jesus (peace and blessings be on him) I don't get tired of listening to this over and over again and recommend to those of ANY FAITH as it is a beautiful lecture about the doings/teachings/sayings of our beloved prophet Jesus from the Islamic perspective.

Please check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OExXZk7P_kI
(go to minute 5 to avoid the intro-if you the link doesn't work, go to youtube.com and type in "Hisham Mahmoud" and you will see it, titled "walk on water" I think.

Jesus's beautiful teachings have changed me so much. And I hope to inspire others by sharing them Inshallah!

ORGANIC YERBA MATE!

What a day!!!! Today was amazing so far...I don't think it can get any better...or maybe it can? It was a beautiful day of meeting beautiful people, our friends in the Methodist community. I really love the vive we get from each of our meetings. I feel like we are all connected through God's love. It's really sweet.

I'm drinking "ORGANIC" mate!!!! I ran out of my regular mate and had to get some ASAP and Henry's farmer's market now sales Organic+fair trade yerba mate yay!!! it tastes really good, not as strong as the one I was drinking, it is just right. It is a bit more expensive but hey, I don't mind if it's harvested in the best ways.

This is day 4 in Raw foods. I can predict I will be tempted as we are going to my mother in law's house for dinner. now she cooks really wonderful, amazing Indian food....I really have to prepare some dishes and be armed with something to do or distract myself, Otherwise I'll fall into trying some of her delicious dishes!!!

I'm amazed at how we "attract" things into our lives. I'm just amazed, no other way to express my feeling.

I spent money today, I had to get gas. I spent $30 approximately as I was running low on gas. Now this is half tank for my van...

I also spent $37 on organic produce and wonderful products. I was able to bring the price low because I had returned some items I wasn't using like canned tomato sauce and pasta and got store credit.

Now I'm still on the "no spending for 30days challenge" so, out of no where I got some money and I was sooo excited about that. I feel like I'm a compost, whatever I'm given I try to give back. So, money will be put into wonderful use, specially to help baby Ronan and Fundraiser God willing.

Please help ronan, visit www.hope4ronan.com and see info on the fundraiser.

I'm working on a schedule, we got a wonderful program but I just have to figure out times and speaker arrangement. I think I have an opportunity to have yet another speaker but I can't confirm this yet. When I get the schedule up, I'll post here so everyone can take a look.

It's 7:46 and we had lunch at around 1:00pm. I do not feel hungry. I don't even feel like having a snack.
Kids are sleeping and tomorrow I got my study circle in the morning. Really looking forward to it as we haven't met in a while! Well, for class that is. We had instead a lot of "socials". I love that study circle, the ladies are wonderful sisters and wonderful, motivational people. I love to get together to learn about our religion.

Day 4!

I am now convinced that raw foods are the way to go. At least for me. Last night we went to a Japanese restaurant. I thought we really needed to just get away and have something healthy and fun for dinner. [pic of my son at kabuki]

Only one problem. It wasn't all raw. They serve sushi and soups and rice....we had a bit of everything...we had grilled fish and risotto and soup. Well, as I was eating and enjoying cooked food I was getting extremely tired. To the point I was closing my eyes. It was funny. I never felt so bad in my life. My legs were so weak and I was ready to sleep. When we were done, we walked a short walk to the parking lot. Kids and myself fell asleep on the way home, I don't remember much after taking off.

I think sometimes we give in to our "cravings" and this is what happens. My body has been detoxing since Tuesday (since we started a day before) and now I put in all this cooked, processed food and it felt horrible.

I'm convinced. I don't need to read another book on raw foods or talk to anyone. I simply see it for myself and listen to MY BODY and my body just didn't like it.

Raw foods can be made a number of ways. Today I'm making spaghetti with sauce. All raw, I'm using zucchini for the spaghetti and fresh tomatoes, nuts and fresh spices for the sauce. I love it!
I'll also make a vegan raw chocolate and fruit pie.

I have to go pick my herbs from the garden, and make my market list.

Yes, I'm going to the store! I will be returning some items and buying what I need. This time, is not all for me, we have a potluck to go to...so I have an excuse to shop. I can easily send my husband but he hates shopping so I'm doing a good deed by doing it myself :) lol

Acai juice

this is a picture of my new dress. I love it! I looked big in it last Sunday but it must be the raw food diet cause I fit well in it now alhamdulilah.

I'm drinking acai juice. I love it! I'm still listening to the cd on it's benefits. I didn't know but the acai berry has more protein than an egg! And it has the good fats that make us feel full and energized. It is known as "the beauty berry", I think I mentioned that before.

Anyhow, Today overall was a positive day, I took the trash out to the garage as we practically are not using it under the "zero waste home" project. Everything gets composted or recycled.

I need to shop tomorrow. Since I'm not spending any money this month, I will return some items from vons (pasta and pasta sauce) and see what I can buy with that. I made a list of things I need....so I'll have to send suhail if I can't afford it all.

Today we went to visit a friend. It was really nice to see her and her cute kids. She's a new Muslim and one that surprises me in all she knows....We had a wonderful time together, I told her about the raw food diet and she seemed interested..I told her if she didn't start with the group, she can start on Saturday June 8th since we will have an intro program at the masjid.

I'm also thinking that I'll meet my "meetup group" once a month. I think it's good to start slow but really plan on seeing each other often...it's a support group after all.

I reallllllllllly hope my husband wants to go to "kabuki" Japanese restaurant, they have lots of sushi/vegan dishes and salads and this way I don't have to prepare anything tonight...but he's sleeping, he seems tired but if we wait any longer we might not go at all as it is Friday and places get packed...

till next one! have a wonderful night :)

my craving

I know it's 9:20am but I am cravingggggggggggg the soup I made last night for the kids LOL!
It's my absolute favorite! It's ok, I'll have to wait to the end of the month to have it and I'm sure it'll taste amazing!

One of the cloth diaper covers broke in the dryer. I'm not happy about that as both kids are in cloth now so we don't make trash....So I have to be creative and try to find some diaper covers without buying. I will try to post my needs on "freecycle.org" and see what I can get for free....

I'm also not using "WIPES" so instead I use small baby cloth wipes and it's working out fine so far.
Trying to make the least trash possible is not impossible and feels so good and healthy!

day 3!

Ok, I don't know what it is, maybe the diet change, the increased exercise....but I'm sleeping too much! I woke up today at 6:30am!!!!! MISSED my morning prayer which is my favorite. I'm not happy at ALL about this. Alhamdulilah. I'm not gonna be upset for too long. I think if we make up the prayer and do extra ibada all is fine. God knows our intentions and He is the one who brings goodness and hardship upon us. We are just trying and He knows best.

I just planted the compost in the back. And I took some herbs from the herb garden. At the lecture I attended last saturday, the speaker who is 5yr+ gardener said you must pick your veggies daily so they produce more. How interesting!
Sort of when mother gives milk to child. During breastfeeding if you stop giving, the milk will stop coming. So the more you give the baby, the more it is produced. Same concept here with veggies. I didn't know!

I should type all my notes and share the wonderful things I learned at the edible garden and landscaping workshop!

Today is Friday so I hope to read surah Kalf entirely, Last week I was reading and paraphrasing for the kids to understand the wonderful stories. It was fun, they listened.
I'm so excited about today, tomorrow, Sunday and Monday. I got so much going on this weekend!

I like to make a list of things to do for the day. This helps me keep my focus and accomplish the most tasks. Seeing it on paper and checking off works really well for me.

YUMMY!!!! Dinner, Shakes and Pudding!

Believe it or not, this picture was our dinner tonight at day #2 on the Raw food challenge. I think my husband was shocked but it was really filling.

I made a Raw vegan Avocado dip, with awesome superfoods, it was delicious! We used raw organic zucchini as our "french fries" here. The salad was made at lunch time and the pecan butter was left over from farmer's market, everything was delicious!

For desert I made two things:

1. A Raw strawberry shake

(coconut meat and it's water plus fresh strawberries and honey)

2. A Raw mango pudding

(coconut meat and it's water, honey and mango)

Both inspired by the raw food family's recipe "coconut and strawberry pudding", go on their site to check out the exact measurements and video: www.therawfoodfamily.com

I was speechless when I made it. I thought I was in heaven, really!

My husband liked it so much he opened up two more coconuts and we made everything so fresh. Only ingredient missing was the vanilla bean, I didn't have any and didn't want to use the fake substitutes. It was fine without it.

What an amazing day! I'm pretty tired now so going to bed..

Here are a couple notes to myself:

1. I need to throw away LESS in the compost. Way too much can be re-used in drinks or raw soups...

2. I need to find more creative recipes such as tonight's to make things fun and include superfoods.

3. I need to share more of this healthy stuff with people, they got no idea what they missing!

4. I will need suhail to shop for some much needed items...but I hope not to ask him soon. I have to do without what I ran out of.

I bought something today...eeeek....

I cheated today..I bought something but it was a gift not for myself....I guess I should disclose that "no shopping" means no shopping at all for me, and if I do shop it's with money I made somehow, not from my savings. AND if I do need something I will ask my husband or someone to buy it. Ahhh, that feels better , I didn't want anyone thinking I'm reallllllllly cheating, I'm trying to keep it real.

Today was first day of homeschooling. It was fun! No one came for the co-op but that's ok we still had homeschooling because that's what I want for my kids. So we talked about surah Kalf and the story of the two gardens, then we talked about trash and how we shouldn't leave trash on our yards or anywhere AND then, I brought out some plastic items I had washed and showed hisham how to use them in his classroom. We found use for a lid, a carton box, strawberry case and a small bottle. He will incorporate them into his kitchen play area lol

Then, we went outside for a garden tour, we looked at some veggies and picked some herbs that are growing nicely, alhamdulilah.

I just had salad cause I didn't have a nice lunch, it was mostly snacks. Salad was delicious as I add a number of superfoods, it was yummy and filling.

I was listening to a cd on Acai berries. They are known as "the beauty berry" because they help with hair and skin and give you positive energy. It does wonders for the small intestine and villi. I love that cd. All cd's like that I need to memorize!!!

Now I will clean up a bit, pray and start reading Quran, let's see how far I get and what insights I gain God willing. I think more than reading 1 part a day I should simply read for reflection. To be honest, I have been so busy, I haven't had time to sit and read Quran and I don't like that. I need to do it daily that's why I thought of it as a challenge but it really isn't, it's just an excuse to make this a daily habit! In other words, it is not really a challenge as it is easy and so rewarding to do!

DAY 2 Must Organize

ok this morning something happened that hasn't happened in months. I woke up tired.
I don't know why this happened but I have some thoughts.
One, I haven't taken my vitamins lately. Two, I took the kids to the Gym and I was doing a lot of exercise with them although it was a kid's gym. Three, I have also been doing a lot of physical work at home and no nap.

Today I want to schedule everything in a way where I can check off things I need to do. Yesterday was great but I didn't do these two: no planting and no reading 1 part Quran. To make up for that today I have to plant 2 things AND read 2 part Quran. HMMM, I don't know if I can do that.

I have to, I MUST try my best to stay on schedule or else I'll fall behind. Alhamdulilah I don't need to buy anything today either, got all the essentials so it's a matter of just organizing myself better. As we run out of items, we will do without them....that's the challenge!

Dinner #2

So far so good, dinner was amazing! and my husband was ok with it he told me he was full although he asked me at the beginning "where's the food?" LOL I'm proud of him! We are doing this as a family so even kids are eating vegan pate and raw veggies and so far they like it! I have to try some new dishes, the zucchini pasta and nori rolls are getting repetitive... I have to try something with mango and coconut! I have them both, shouldn't be too difficult.

Ok more tomorrow! goodnight :)
peace

KPFK RADIO

Boy I have so much to share...I went to mommy and me gathering at the kids' gym. I thought I read the email which said it was free ...I got there and then they charge $5 a child which is not bad...but I can't spend any money for 1month...soooooo, I saw my friend Hala there and she lend me money to pay. I told her I'll pay her back but she insisted I keep the money so I gave her some items I'm selling to raise funds for Ronan. So that worked out! I didn't have to pay plus, we got some donations for Ronan! I was so happy :)

My husband liked the raw vegan snacks I brought for him...that's great, now I got hungry so I'm eating banana chips.
I was craving some coconut water but it's almost done and I can't BUY new water, so I'll have to open up a coconut and I plan to fill the bottle from fridge with fresh coco juice. I want to also make a raw vegan coconut pudding I got the recipe from www.therawfoodfamily.com, using the coconut meat and other stuff. My only problem is I don't have vanilla bean..I have the imitation vanilla but I can't use that during the raw food diet...so we'll have to find an alternative!
I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE the Jasmine tea I got from the Indian store, it's wonderful! I been telling everyone I know about it as it has great properties to beat depression, stress, headaches and much more.
I head the awareness show on KPFK, that's my favorite show all the time, I made a pledge to the station as it is people owned and I love the fact that it has the best quality programs! But I can't pay it off till next month when I can spend money. So I told them please bill me in a month LOL!
Please support them, they are the best!

today 10am in the morning....

So far alhamdulilah, things are going well.
I managed to "de-clutter" the bedroom a bit...I washed the cloth diapers for bilal so now they are ready to go. Hisham is wearing cloth underwear. We will go out for couple hours so I have to keep regular diapers for bilal (I'm kinda cheating...).
For lunch I made a few things for my husband which I wanna drop off.
Hisham had organic/vegan breakfast. nuts, seeds, berries and almond water (or almond milk as it is called). He said it was yummy.
For snacks on our outing today we will have organic banana chips (which are dehydrated not cooked in any way) and water....I'm not sure what to expect at the mommy and me class today...but we will figure it out! I bet they will serve at least one fruit or veggie, that's what we'll eat.
I still have to plant something, but it's raining outside, maybe I'll use a pot and grow something indoors.
At the 99C store I found these ceramic small pots with the label of some herbs, very nice! for $1 only it was an awesome thing cause I plan on giving these away as gifts!
I'm off to drop off food/drinks to suhail at his office and let's see what else I get to do...I'm really happy so far, nothing processed, everything raw organic and delicious! So far, we are off to a great first day on raw foods!!!!

Check out some inspirational videos at: www.therawfoodfamilly.com
ok, so I managed to organize myself to be able to achieve all my goals for this month....and I don't think it will be that difficult, I just probably will need some support although I'm pretty much a leader by nature alhamdulilah!

No shopping
When I told my husband I'm not going to shop for 1month I think he thought I was crazy and I think I heard a noise (I was over the phone) and perhaps he fell off his chair lol.
But it's not impossible!
I think we are living in a very immature way and everything is "needs" and "wants" and "musts" and it shouldn't be that way!
I went to Costco yesterday and bought some awesome stuff to be able to survive for 1month and I got some really cool items, I surprised myself!
Then, I went to the 99C store and got some glass jars, organizational tools to get me started.

RAW FOODS
So we started vegan organic raw foods last night and I had gone to the farm to pick up some fresh veggies and I hope these last a while...and if they are gone by week 1, I will be harvesting whatever I can from backyard and will even ask my neighbors to share their veggies as they are both gardeners!

ZERO WASTE
so I have been recycling a lot and then I thought well maybe I can bring all trash back into the earth (as it is fruits and veggies anyway, no cooked or animal products). So I asked the farmers what tips they have for composting. I was so shocked, all you need to do is dig a 1" by 1" hole in the backyard and put all your stuff there and cover it, start a new one! This is amazing! I thought I had to toss and turn it and water it, all the things I read somewhere but no!
So Zero waste for me is not that bad at all.
Diapers were an issue but I'll do cloth from now on, which is something I prefer for kids and have done it with my eldest son anyway...
The other issue is milk...It's not in a recycled container..it's on a plastic one. I thought of transitioning Bilal (my young son) into drinking fresh fruit juice, coconut water and almond milk....so I will try doing that, that way I make my own juices and milks and that might save us money, and the pressure of having to use bottled milk..

Planting 1 thing a day
So this shouldn't be difficult as I plant daily anyway or work in the garden. Now I can plant flowers or more veggies and I just need to organize it better to keep track of where I'm planting lol.

De-cluttering
I want to de-clutter one place of my house DAILY and record what I do.
It's really important to live a clutter-free life!!! You can think better! It's amazing the power of organization.

Make money
This aspect will be a bit more secretive as I don't see myself sharing how I make money but I can give "general" guidelines....I'm excited about this one, specially since my husband doesn't want me working..I just want to be able to bring in some money from the sale of items or for my dedicated work...we will see

And there you have it, a taste of what this month challenge will be like, I'm very excited and I hope I can cope!
more coming...

peace,
gaby
